To All of Calvin’s Friends:
Unfortunately, Calvin had to say Goodbye
to us today because God wanted him to come and rest by his side. Calvin was like
our child in many ways even though he was a dog and I’m sure many of you would agree.
We were lucky to have him in our life for 11 years and loved every minute of it.
He was different from many other dogs in a way that I cannot describe. I
looked forward to the day I can hung him again.
Eastern Yacht Club was Calvin’s
second home where he was loved by so many members and visiting guests from other yacht clubs.
He didn’t miss any opportunity to go for a boat ride or club boating event. Each
year he would wear his Eastern Yacht Club bandana on Opening Day Weekend to PROUDLY represent the EYC Big Dogs. There wasn’t a weekend that passed that he wouldn’t stroll down the piers and visit other members and their
dogs. Last year, we were proud to see him representing EYC in the Nor’easter
Magazine three times as one their featured Boat Dogs and then for the Annual Boat Dogs feature edition. Many of you would see him hanging out on the back of the boat and occasionally take a dip and swim down
and come out on the small beach. He swam so much at that beach that A Pier decided
to call it Calvin’s Beach. I think this year I will post his “Calvin’s Beach”
sign at the beach in memory of him.
We told Calvin before he went to sleep
that we will sprinkle his ashes in his favorite places, so we decided that we will sprinkle some off of Calvin’s beach, from
the back of our boat, and then down in Fenwick Island some time this summer.
Paul and I may be very saddened
by our loss but we also have many good memories. If anyone has any pictures of Calvin I would like to get a copy because I
would like to create a memory album of his life.
I received a couple of kind words
today that I would like to share with everyone.
“One thing about your best friend and that is he has and will leave pal prints on your heart forever!
“One last word of farewell, Dear Master and Mistress. Whenever you visit
my grave, say to yourselves with regret but also with happiness in your hearts at the remembrance of my long happy life with
you: “Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved.” No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you, and not all the power of
death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail.
Speacial Thanks to Clocktower Animal Hospital and Country Club Kennels.
In Loving Memory of Calvin Richards
